our history
In February 2013, Dr. Christi Scott, Dr. Malenia French, and Dr. Crasha Townsend came together with the idea of organizing a chapter of the sorority that would meet the needs of the New River Valley in Southwest Virginia and the surrounding communities through scholarship and service. After much planning, the idea came to fruition on May 18, 2013, in Christiansburg, VA.
The Omega Chi Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered by six women who aspired to bring positive change to the community and be the difference they wanted to see: Christi Scott, Dionne Harrison, Opal Merchant, Melanie French, Crasha Townsend, and Sienna Abdulahad.
Omega Chi Zeta grew as new members were introduced to the organization and chapter. Sorors from across the State of Virginia reclaimed membership within the chapter. Soon, Omega Chi Zeta stood strong with over 10 members. Currently, we are eight members strong doing the work of Zeta while blazing new paths as we continue to grow with new, reclaimed, and retained members. Nonetheless, Omega Chi Zeta also sponsors two undergraduate chapters, Upsilon Lambda (Virginia Tech) and Tau Lambda (Radford University).
